In the month of my father’s heavenly birthday, I kickstarted the Black Dad Matters campaign. Here, I wanted to raise awareness on the importance of the Black Father, and to destigmatise him as the absent and deadbeat one.

My first conversation was with Pamela Kgare of Heartlines who conducted a research project on the landscape of fatherhood in South Africa.

We spoke about some of their findings and shared our journeys of growing up in the absence of our fathers.
